Q：刺桐部落地名緣起?

A：

      刺桐部落的阿美語地名，為了方便解釋，向來被標誌為fulafulak，但是，正確的發音其實是fuda-fudak。關於部落的阿美語地名，外傳有「fudafudk」與「fudafudakgan」的兩種講法，部落族人Sinsing向她的父母親求證：「fudafudak」的是指「沙丘」的意思，或指「沙灘」也沒有什麼不可以。

      此地曾經有大量的刺桐，及一種叫adada的樹，如今已看不到。所以後來也才有「刺桐部落」這樣的中文名稱。

      最近參與傳統領域的調查發現，前人會依當地的環境情形或生物發出的聲音，而發展擬聲或擬態的語言來描述看見之狀態，「u fulafulak」曾經不是有人居住的部落空間，只是一片沙灘。稱「fudafudak」與「fudafudakgan」，二者意思沒有太大的不同，都是指現在的刺桐部落。若以頻率來說，則仍以fudafudak為最常使用。(原作\Sinsing，編輯\大苑 20100919)

        The geographical name of the location in traditional Amis language is usually marked as fulafulak, although the correct pronunciation is fuda-fudak (The recordings of the pronunciation will be posted up recently). There are hearsays that say “fudafudak” or “fudafudakgan” are the two representations of the geographical name in Amlis. Sinsing, a clansman, went to her parents and proved that “fudafudak” means sand dune or beach and that made sense of the saying.

        This place used to grow lots of erythrina and a kind of tree called adada, which no longer exist. Therefore, there came the name of erythrina tribe.

        Lately, the research on traditional sphere found that predecessors were influenced by the surrounding and were likely to create sounds or language that mimic the conditions they had seen. “U fulafulak” used to be a beach without people living around. Naming it “fudafudak” or ”fudafudakgan” does not make much difference, because they both meant the erythrina tribe nowadays. However, fudafudak is still the most frequently used title.
